2003-11-08 - 6:48 p.m. Biologists who heard a strange underwater sound made a bizarre discovery when they linked the noise to bubbles coming out of a herring's anus. "It sounds just like a high-pitched raspberry," said one scientist. Fast and furious fish-fart research ensued, leading the biologists to theorize that herrings use the rapid-fire sounds to communicate (which probably would be the first literal case of a creature talking out its ass). As scientists are prone to do, the researchers quickly gave the noise a whimsical name -- Fast Repetitive Tick, or FRT. Get it? FRT! You're killin' us! |
