When they go, they'll go in huge numbers, placing an enormous strain on retirement and Medicare programs. The nation had better start preparing now, says Fed head Alan Greenspan. Raising taxes to cover expenses might hurt the economy (Greenspan again), so the only real alternative is to cut spending in other areas.
