State radio recently declared him "like God." But Equatorial Guinea has a lot of oil, so the Bush administration was willing to overlook the more unsavory aspects of Teodoro Obiang's regime and re-establish diplomatic relations -- severed eight years ago -- with the West African nation. A few miserable Africans, it seems, is a small enough price to pay to keep those SUVs running. � |
