2003-11-18 - 7:52 p.m. Equatorial Guinea's president has imprisoned and tortured his opponents, had his presidential predecessor executed by firing squad, and helped himself to the country's treasury at will. State radio recently declared him "like God." But Equatorial Guinea has a lot of oil, so the Bush administration was willing to overlook the more unsavory aspects of Teodoro Obiang's regime and re-establish diplomatic relations -- severed eight years ago -- with the West African nation. A few miserable Africans, it seems, is a small enough price to pay to keep those SUVs running. �
