2003-10-18 - 10:53 a.m. An opposition MP in Thailand got his knickers in a twist over mandatory rectal swabs required of catering professionals working at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Bangkok. Chefs and waiters working at the 16 hotels hosting the summit underwent the checks to ensure they were typhoid- and parasite-free. "It's over the top," MP Akapol Sorasuchart told The Nation. The workers themselves seem to have taken the measure in stride. "It's good because we will know whether anything is wrong with our health," said one cook. Thankfully the test results were normal, and top Thai chefs can wow attendees like George Bush and Vladimir Putin with their culinary chops -- in good health. |
